The third instalment of the highly anticipated NRL All Stars match kicks off at 7pm (AEST) this Saturday from Skilled Park on the Gold Coast.
The NRL All Stars will be hoping to claim back-to-back wins when they take on an Indigenous side full of past and present representative players. The NRL side has suffered a disrupted preparation, after losing both Cameron Smith and Ben Hornby to injury. Smith has been replaced by Cowboys hooker Aaron Payne and Dragons utility Nathan Fien joins the squad for Hornby.
The Indigenous team not only boasts a formidable pack upfront, lead by Broncos skipper Sam Thaiday and Canberra Raiders powerhouse Tom Learoyd-Lahrs, but they also possess a wealth of depth and class in the backline. It comprises five current and former QLD State of Origin reps in Thurston , Inglis , Hodges , Yow Yeh and Bowen .
The NRL team is just as impressive, with an exciting halves pairing of Benji Marshall and Cooper Cronk complemented by an electrifying backline featuring the likes of Josh Dugan , Michael Jennings and 2011 NRL rookie of the year Jack Reed who are all no strangers to finding the try line.
Both teams share bragging rights after the Indigenous team won the inaugural clash in 2010 16-4. Last year’s encounter was a different story thanks to a flurry of first half tries from the NRL side which they convincingly won 28-18.
The winner of this year’s match will claim the inaugural Arthur Beetson trophy after the great man was rightfully selected to have his name honoured on the annual trophy.
