Southside couple win $31 million in Powerball

Friday 3 February, 2012   - A stunned professional couple from Brisbane’s Southside has claimed the entire division one prize pool from last night’s Powerball draw.

The couple discovered the life changing reality of their win when they checked the draw results online at after last night’s draw.

The couple explained that they checked the numbers on their entry against the numbers on the screen over and over again.

“We were completely shocked and in a state of disbelief. Needless to say we didn’t sleep much last night,” the couple said.

“It’s a bit surreal, we both feel a bit numb at the moment.”

When asked how they plan to use their massive windfall, the couple said they would help family and friends and pay off their debts.

“We are both going to continue working but first we’ll have lunch to celebrate and catch up on some sleep,” the couple said.

“This is a once in a lifetime experience and it will take some time to sink in.”

The couple, who last night became instant multi-millionaires, purchased their System 8 entry at Watland Street 727 in Springwood.

Golden Casket Public Relations Manager Elissa Lewis said the couple were the only division one winners nationally in last night’s Powerball draw.

“There was such a tremendous amount of interest sparked in last night’s Powerball draw that the division one prize pool was naturally boosted to $31 million,” Ms Lewis said.

“It was fortunate last night’s winning couple had their entry registered to a Winners Circle card so Golden Casket could phone them and confirm their life changing news.”

The winning numbers in Powerball draw 820 were 37, 42, 9, 13 and 29. The Powerball was 29.
