The Central Coast Mariners  go into their game against Brisbane Roar  on Saturday in the unfamiliar position of being the favourites. Graham Arnold’s team sits ten points clear of the chasing pack and have established themselves as the team to beat. They went some way to making amends for last year’s grand final defeat with a 2-1  win at Suncorp Stadium on December 17, on the way to establishing a unbeaten streak that was extended to fifteen matches with their 3-2  win against Adelaide United in their last match.

Brisbane, the early pacesetters and defending champions, have won just once in the past five games and suffered a 1-0 home defeat to the struggling Newcastle Jets last week. Their bid to regain form as we approach the backend of the season will be boosted by the return of leading goalscorer Besart Berisha, who missed the match against Newcastle through suspension.

In addition to the December 17 clash between the sides, the Mariners and Roar met at Suncorp Stadium on the opening day of the season, with Brisbane winning 1-0 .
