Adelaide United will be looking to bounce back from a dismal showing against Perth when they host Wellington Phoenix at Hindmarsh Stadium on Friday night. After making a decent start under new coach John Kosmina, the Reds slipped to a 3-0 defeat against Perth Glory to remain entrenched in the bottom three on the competition ladder. It has now been five games since Adelaide’s last win, which ironically came against this opposition at this ground on December 30.
Wellington registered a third straight victory with their 3-1 win over Melbourne Heart last week and that was enough to send them up to second on the table. They have won their past three matches and a win in Adelaide would also give them a hat-trick of wins on the road.
This match will be third clash between these teams during the current campaign. Prior to Adelaide’s 2-0 win at Hindmarsh Stadium at the end of last year, Wellington salvaged a draw against the Reds with a late equaliser at Eden Park on November 19.
