The Socceroos take on Saudi Arabia at AAMI Park on Wednesday night, having already secured their passage to the next phase of World Cup qualification. Australia is guaranteed top spot in Group D after winning four of their opening five fixtures. Despite being qualified for the next stage, the Socceroos will not be taking their opposition lightly and have named a squad containing Harry Kewell , Mark Schwarzer and the recalled Marco Bresciano. Bresciano , who is based in the United Arab Emirates, is set to make his first appearance in the green and gold since the 2010 World Cup.
When these teams met in Dammam last year, Australia triumphed 3-1 thanks to a double from Josh Kennedy and a penalty that was duly converted by Luke Wilkshire. Saudi Arabia, who played out a 0-0 at home to Oman in their last qualifier, can advance to the next stage with a win, although a draw would also be enough if the match between Oman and Thailand ended all square. Australia defeated Thailand 1-0 in Bangkok when last seen on the road to the World Cup.
