Gold Coast United battles Central Coast Mariners at Skilled Park on Wednesday night after one of the most dramatic weeks in A-League history. Gold Coast’s billionaire owner Clive Palmer has again found himself in hot water after a tirade of negative comments forcing an intervention from the FFA following the release of Coach Miron Bleiberg.

The Coast have been in poor form recently, collecting just one win in their past ten matches to sit well entrenched at the bottom of the A-League ladder eight competition points behind second last Adelaide United. In a major boost for the home team, United’s captain Michael Thwaite return’s from injury and his leadership will be needed if they are any chance of competing against the high flying Mariners.

Gold Coast have proved to be a thorn in the Mariners side this season and are the only team the competitions leaders are yet to beat. The week two match between the clubs ended in a 1-1 draw after a late Patrick Zwaanswijk equaliser saved the Mariners a point and the clubs again shared the points on New Year’s Eve in an uneventful 0-0 draw .
