South Sydney and St George Illawarra meet in the annual Charity Shield match on Saturday night. Both teams enter the 2012 season with new coaches at the helm. The Rabbitohs welcome former Wigan Warriors coach Michael Maguire who is no stranger to coaching at NRL level having previous stints with Canberra and Adelaide.

The Dragons begin life without super coach Wayne Bennet. Bennet’s 2011 Assistant and former QLD and Australian representative Steve Price takes the reins at Wollongong. On the field is where the battle will be won, in what is typically a bruising encounter filled with plenty of fireworks as both teams set a platform for their NRL title bid.

St George put the Bunnies to the sword in last year’s contest with an emphatic 32-10 victory thanks to a sixteen point haul from winger Bronx Goodwin. Souths have a host of big names returning for the clash including England front rower Sam Burgess who missed the majority of last season through injury and former Australian centre Matt King who returns from to Australia after spending the past four seasons in the English Super League.
