A pass is yet to be thrown in the 2012 NRL season however the Dally M Medal winner is a hot topic of conversation. Jonathon Thurston is the early favourite to claim the medal, the Cowboys playmaker will don the Cowboys number six jersey this season in a bid to claim Darren Lockyer’s vacant QLD and Australian jumper. Thurston’s replacement in waiting for the vacant halfback jersey, Cooper Cronk is also tipped for a big 2012.

Last year’s runner up Benji Marshall is another strong candidate, especially if the Tigers can improve on a disappointing finish to their 2011 season. 2011 winner Billy Slater successfully returned from a broken collarbone in the Storms trial win over the Broncos and should feature heavily in the voting come September.

Todd Carney showed signs of brilliance in the Sharks’ trial games which saw him claim the medal in 2010 and has been well supported by TattsBet punters. Australian skipper in waiting Cameron Smith is also primed for a bumper 2012 along with the likes of Sharks skipper Paul Gallen and Newcastle duo Darius Boyd and Kurt Gidley .
