Sydney FC faces Perth Glory at the Sydney Football Stadium, with a win likely to be enough to catapult them into the top six. The sky blues have been in poor form recently, collecting just one win in their past nine matches. That 2-1 victory has been sandwiched between a few big losses, with last week’s 5-2 drubbing at the hands of Newcastle coming just five weeks after conceding four goals against both Melbourne Heart and Wellington Phoenix. Skipper Terry McFlynn and Mark Bridge will both be missing for the hosts, but they will be boosted by the return of star man Brett Emerton, who returns from a hamstring injury.
Perth is one of the form teams in the competition, having won five of their past six matches. They are coming off a 4-0 drubbing of Gold Coast United last week, taking their tally to eleven goals in their past three matches. Those results have come against the bottom three teams on the ladder however, and Sydney FC will represent a big step from those opponents if they are anywhere near their best. A win could lift them to as high as second on the table come the end of the round.
These teams have met twice already this season, with the most recent match being a 1-1 draw just three weeks ago. When the sides clashed in Perth in week 6, the visitors triumphed 1-0. Glory hasn’t beaten Sydney FC since November 2009.
