Caulfield Racing Preview

**TattsBet $1,089 Extra Double Jackpot (MR4 & MR5)**

Carlyon Cup (MR4) – Several promising horses begin their autumn campaigns in this Group 3 contest, but many of them will be looking for further. West Australian galloper Ranger is one that looks to be well suited here, having shown a great deal of promise in Perth during summer. He trialled well at Ascot at the start of the week and show make his presence known in this race. Manighar is the highest rated horse in this field and is well suited by the set weights plus penalties conditions of this contest. Although this is shorter than his ideal distance, he could run a big race. Shout Out Loud has an edge in fitness over his rivals and should get a good run from barrier one, while Vivid Vixen and Shadowfax are others capable of running into a place.
Selections: Ranger, Manighar, Shout Out Loud, Vivid Vixen

Autumn Stakes (MR5) – Group One winner Benfica disappointed in his reappearance here on Australia Day but should be better suited by the extra 200m here. Although he has to give weight away to his rivals, he has a class edge over these rivals. Stablemate Pied A Terre ran an admirable second in Listed company against older horses at his last start and looks to be on the up. Caulfield Guineas placegetter Huegill represents the powerful combination of Moody/Nolen combination and should improve on his run in the Zeditave Stakes, while Adamantium was unlucky in that race and has strong claims.
Selections: Huegill, Benfica, Adamantium, Pied A Terre

Orr Stakes (MR6) – Unbeaten superstar Black Caviar looks to have this race at her mercy, but the short odds won’t make too much appeal to most punters. Although she is yet to be tested over further the 1200m, the ease with which she has won her other races would suggest that going over 1400m won’t pose any problems. Caulfield Cup winner Southern Speed made a very impressive reappearance in the Barton Stakes on Australia Day and she can run second, while Midas Touch, Illo and Playing God could fight it out for third.
Selections: Black Caviar, Southern Speed, Playing God, Midas Touch

Rubiton Stakes **TattsBet $79,156 First Four Jackpot** (MR7) – The three year olds look to have a strong hand in this race and the best of them is speedy Queanbeyan filly Karuta Queen. She has won three of her four starts over this trip and getting weight off all her rivals, is clearly the one to beat. Hot Spin and Decircles have already run well over sprint trips this year and cannot be discounted for the classic generation. First Command recorded a strong win over Decircles at Flemington last month and meets him before off at the weights. He is very good when right and looks to have the best chance of the older horses. Weekend Special and Zedi Knight are coming off career best runs and should be included in first fours.
Selections: Karuta Queen, Hot Spin, First Command, Decircles
