The A-League caravan rolls into Launceston on Wednesday night, with the Melbourne Victory taking on Gold Coast United at Aurora Stadium. Both teams will be looking for a win after struggling in recent matches. Melbourne is third from bottom on the competition ladder following their 2-2 draw with Sydney FC at AAMI Park on Australia Day and have won just one of their past seven matches. So tight is the middle of the table however, that a win in this match would mean that are just one point off a top six spot.
Following the postponement of their game against the Mariners on Friday night, Gold Coast remains where they have been for most of the season; at the foot of the ladder. Although they haven’t been playing terribly, they have failed to take the opportunities presented to them and haven’t won since defeating Brisbane Roar 1-0 in the M1 derby on Boxing Day. They have also been dealt a further blow by the unavailability of Dutch midfielder Paul Beekmans, who has been released by the club on compassionate grounds.
When these teams met in week eight of the season, Victory ran out 3-2 winners.
