Generous Glenroy TattsLotto winner to give a third of his $1.4 million prize to charity

Monday 31 December, 2012 - In an inspirational story to start the New Year, one of Australia’s newest millionaires plans to give a third of his $1.4 million TattsLotto prize to charity after winning a share of the $30 million Megadraw on the weekend.

The generous father in his 40s who purchased his ticket in Glenroy said he has had a plan of how to spend a lotto windfall for some time.

“I’m breathless right now,” he said when speaking with Tatts this afternoon.

“This is quite funny. I made a plan a long time ago about what I would do if I ever won lotto. I’ve always said I’ll divide the prize into three parts; I’ll give one third to my family, use one third to help the poor and needy, and keep one third for myself.

“It’s been a lifetime dream of mine to open a trust account for charities so they can have this money and continue to benefit from earning interest,” he explained.

“I’ll be giving one third of the prize money to Doctors Without Borders and World Vision. I hope that this might make others think about giving too.

“As for myself, I’ll use some of the prize to pay off the mortgage and look after my family.”

The winner purchased his marked entry from Glenroy Newsagency, 773 Pascoe Vale Road, Glenroy. Although the winner had registered his entry to his Tatts Card, Tatts was unable to reach him until today to share the good news.

There were five winning entries purchased in Victoria in TattsLotto’s $30 million Megadraw and each of the winners will each kick start the New Year with a first division prize of $1,428,571.43.

Along with the Glenroy ticket, the other winning entries were purchased from Ascot Lotto and News in Ascot Vale, Supanews Highpoint Atrium in Maribyrnong, The Pines Lotto & Confectionery in Doncaster East, and one from Tatts directly.

The prize won with a ticket purchased from Maribyrnong will be split between a ten-member store syndicate while the other four prizes will go to individual winners.

Throughout Australia, there were 21 winners who claimed a $1,428,571.43 first division share of TattsLotto’s $30 million Megadraw division one prize pool. Along with the five winning tickets purchased in Victoria, there were four purchased in Queensland, four in New South Wales, four in Western Australia, two in Tasmania and two in South Australia.

The winning numbers in TattsLotto’s $30 million Megadraw 3281 on 29 December 2012 were 25, 7, 35, 15, 37 and 14 with the supplementary numbers 20 and 3.
