B.J McLachlan Stakes (BR5)
– This event is sure to be a good guide to the Magic Millions Classic at the Gold Coast in a fortnight, with several promising juveniles set to line up here. Sir Luminar made a good impression when running away with a Listed race at Eagle Farm on debut and looks set to be one of the leading protagonists despite drawing wide. If Chris Munce can get him across from barrier 12 without having to do too much work, he will be in the finish. Gai Waterhouse has sent two gallopers north for this event in Kembla Grange maiden winner Northern Glory and Randwick scorer Sweet Idea. Both will be competitive, with the latter probably the pick having trialled well behind Magic Millions favourite Assail. I’m Too Sexy was an impressive winner of the Clockwise Classic at Ballarat last month and is perfectly drawn in gate one, while Missy Longstocking has three wins from as many starts and warrants respect.
Selections: Sir Luminar, I’m Too Sexy, Sweet Idea, Missy Longstocking
Vo Rogue Plate (BR6)
– As was the case in the Gold Edition Plate two weeks ago, its appears as though Sizzling will simply have too much class for his rivals in this contest. The Kelso Wood trained colt is likely to settle midfield again and finish over the top of them. Gerald Ryan’s Dances On Stars could be the best of the rest, having scored an impressive win over this trip at Rosehill last time out. The closest that he has got to Sizzling in four races is a length however, and it is hard to see him turning the table from a wide draw. Caliente raced well during the Brisbane Winter Carnival without winning but finally got a black type success when taking out the Listed Mode Plate first up earlier this month. A repeat of that performance would see her in the finish here from the rails draw. Lucky Hussler and Noogoora Burr should be added to the mix, with the latter boasting a win over Sizzling last year.
Selections: Sizzling, Dances On Stars, Caliente, Noogoora Burr
Bernborough Handicap (BR7)
– Alma’s Fury finished 2nd by the narrowest of margins in last week’s Villiers Stakes in Sydney, but can go one better here. Despite failing to win in his past 11 starts, the five year-old never runs a bad race and will get a perfect run in transit from barrier two. Fire Up Fifi has been racing in career best form with six wins from her past eight starts and cannot be discounted despite rising sharply in the weights. She is well drawn in barrier five and will be in the finish. Danagaze was only narrowly beaten by Mr Light Blue last time out and will better with some give in the ground, while Carry Me Bluey and Mystical Grey are place chances.
Selections: Alma’s Fury, Fire Up Fifi, Carry Me Bluey, Mr Light Blue
