Dee Why's $1.9 million Lotto prize finally claimed by family!

Friday 28 December, 2012 - A family has finally claimed a $1,983,751.55 division one Lotto prize from a ticket purchased in Dee Why, two weeks after the draw!

The father of the winning family was travelling through Dee Why for work when he stopped into Grand Plaza Newsagency and bought the ticket. He said he is still in shock after finally claiming his million dollar prize.

“I don’t normally buy Lotto tickets, but I was on a break and stepped into the newsagency and picked up a QuickPick ticket while I was there,” he said.

“Then I just forgot about it! The ticket was sitting on the kitchen bench for almost two weeks before I remembered to check it.

“My wife and I were happy before, but this money just means our future, and our children’s future, is set. It’s a great way to start 2013.

“We’ll buy a house with the money and help out some of our family – it will just take the stress of debt away. We’re not silly, so we’re not going to blow it!”

As the former mystery owner of the ticket did not register the winning Saturday Lotto entry to a Players Club card, NSW Lotteries officials had no way of contacting the lucky winner with news of his new millionaire status.

The winning ticket was purchased from Grand Plaza Newsagency, Shops 24 and 25 at Dee Why Grand Plaza.

Lotto players are encouraged to always register their lottery purchases to a NSW Lotteries Players Club card. Not only does registration ensure your prizes are secure it also ensures you can be contacted directly with news of a big win.

The winning numbers in Saturday Lotto, draw 3277, on 15 December 2012 were 16, 41, 7, 9, 20 and 5 with the supplementary numbers 6 and 11.

NSW Lotteries spokesperson Zoe Knobel said there will be many more happy winners before New Year.

“Saturday Lotto’s $30 Million Megadraw is tomorrow night, 29 December,” Ms Knobel said.

“Buy an entry today for your chance to share in $30 million!”
