When Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson purchased Robin van Persie from Arsenal earlier this season and pitted him with one of the best front men in the EPL, Wayne Rooney, it spelt danger for the rest of the competition. The past three matches have given us a taste of what could be to come, with the duo both scoring in each of those games and seven times between them.

Last weekend’s 3-1 victory over Sunderland helped maintain the Red Devils’ six-point lead at the top of the table, and the next team facing the United juggernaut is Swansea City . The Welsh side was eyeing off a place in Europe a fortnight back, but a 4-3 loss to Norwich at home was followed up by a 1-0 defeat by Spurs at the weekend to leave them lying in tenth place.

Prior to the goalfest against the Canaries, Swansea’s only defeat at Liberty Stadium was a 3-0 shutout by Everton in mid-September. Fullback Angel Rangel missed the trip to White Hart Lane, and won’t be rushed back from a calf injury to solidify the backline for the clash with United. Star frontman Michu has been cleared following a head clash with Tottenham ‘keeper Hugh Lloris which left him dazed. Ferguson showed interest in Michu when he was with Rayo Vallecano last season before Swansea swooped, and he has paid their investment back in bucketloads, sitting top of the EPL scoring table alongside van Persie.

The teams have met only twice in their history, with United winning 1-0 at Liberty Stadium last season before recording a 2-0 victory at Old Trafford in the run home.
