Eagle Farm Racing Preview December 15

Quality Handicap (BR5) – Jet Style is one of Brisbane’s form gallopers at the moment, having scored back-to-back win in similar races to this at his past two starts. He has been rising steadily in the weights however and the handicapper may have caught up with him. Carry Me Bluey has a great record over a mile and will be much improved for his first up run behind Steel Zip in the Listed Keith Noud Quality. He will get a good run from gate two and be finishing strongly. Pepperwood is slowly slipping down the weights and wasn’t disgraced at his last two starts, while Mystical Grey and Mr Light Blue can run well if running to their best form.
Selections: Carry Me Bluey, Jet Style, Pepperwood, Mystical Grey

Gold Edition Plate (BR6) – Group One winner Sizzling could hardly be better placed here, with the Set Weights conditions of the race meaning that he meets all of his rivals at least 10kg well in at the weights. Although this race may be shorter than his ideal distance, the Kelso Wood trained galloper has won two black type races over the trip and was beaten less than two lengths when sixth in the Group One Coolmore Stud Stakes at Flemington last month. He also appreciates the long straight at Eagle Farm, where he has won three of his four starts and finished second in the other. Lucky Hussler has won two from two this preparation and is clearly progressive. The Conspirator has a very similar profile to that of Lucky Hussler and it is interesting that Paul Hammersley takes the mount on him, having ridden both horses at their last start. Discreet produced a huge run to finish fourth at Eagle Farm first up despite enduring a wide run and should run a good race from barrier three.
Selections: Sizzling, Discreet, The Conspirator, Lucky Hussler

Just Now Quality (BR7) – Several of these runners met here two weeks ago, when Jester’s Girl belied her big odds to win narrowly. Less than half a length separated the first three across the line in that contest and this looks equally as tough. There should be plenty of pace in the race with Funtantes and Sunset Affair likely to push forward from their wide draws. The latter is interesting given that Gillian Heinrich elects to tackle the older horses but a wide draw will make things very tough for her. Risk Aversion will have come on for his first up run and will appreciate the step up to 1300m here, making her hard to beat. She was simply too far back at her last start and will be finishing over the top of them if the pace is on. Jester’s Girl can be in the finish if able to replicate her run here at the start of the month, while Funtantes is probably the best of the on-pace runners.
Selections: Risk Aversion, Funtantes, Jester’s Girl, Sunset Affair
