Wednesday 12 December, 2012 - A sole parent from Cairns has come forward to claim her $1.3 million Saturday Gold Lotto prize!
The winner doesn’t buy Gold Lotto entries regularly, and isn’t in the habit of checking tickets immediately after the draws take place.
The winner checked her entry on Tuesday evening and spoke with Golden Casket afterwards to confirm the good news.
“I can honestly not believe this, especially the timing,” she said.
“The reason I bought a lotto ticket was because my role at work just changed and I thought, ‘I would love to just win the lotto right now’, and it’s actually happened!” she said, still incredulous at the news.
The winner in her 40s said she’s looking forward to sharing some of the prize money with family.
“I’m so happy I’ll be able to give something back to my parents who have been so amazing in my life,” she said.
Despite the recent changes to her role, the winner doesn’t plan on giving up work now she’s a millionaire.
“I’ll continue working, you wouldn’t want to give up altogether at this stage.”
The local woman purchased her winning QuickPick entry from Mt Sheridan Newspower, Shop 33 in Mt Sheridan Plaza, 106 Barnard Drive.
Throughout Australia, there were three winners who claimed a $1,338,898.58 first division share of the estimated $4 million Saturday Gold Lotto division one prize pool on the weekend. Along with the Queensland winning entry, there was one winner in Victoria and another in New South Wales.
The winning numbers in Saturday Gold Lotto draw 3275 on 8 December 2012 were 16, 41, 36, 6, 13 and 33 with the supplementary numbers 4 and 15.
Golden Casket Public Relations Executive Zoe Knobel said there will be many more happy winners before New Year.
“Saturday Gold Lotto’s $30 Million Megadraw is just around the corner on 29 December,” Ms Knobel said.
“Buy an entry today for your chance to share in $30 million, or purchase a ticket as a Christmas gift for friends, family or work colleagues!”
