Gunners Try To Reignite Season

A mini-slump all of a sudden became a little bit worse for Arsenal when it let slip a two-goal cushion away to Schalke 04 in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday morning (AEST), with the Germans sneaking away with a point from the Matchday 4 contest.

It compounded a frustrating few weeks for manager Arsene Wenger, who returned to the technical area after his touchline ban for the first three matches of the tournament. After going down to lowly Norwich City, his Gunners only just managed to hold off the equally-poor QPR. They were then thoroughly outplayed by Manchester United at Old Trafford, where former striker Robin van Persie scored early, and Wenger was livid with Jack Wilshere’s late send off.

On Sunday morning (AEDT) the Gunners will try to get their season back on track against fellow London side Fulham . The Cottagers have held their own in the last three match-ups between these teams, winning 2-1 at home in January, which was preceded by 1-1 and 2-2 draws. There isn’t much between the teams on the Premier League table, either, with Arsenal one spot ahead of Fulham in 7th place.

Sunday’s visitors should really be higher up the table, but draws the past month against Everton, Reading and Southampton have slowed their progress. There certainly hasn’t been a shortage of goals in Fulham matches, with the over 2.5 goals covered in nine out of their ten Premier League fixtures.
