Perth Glory  will be seeking revenge for their Grand Final loss to the Brisbane Roar  when the two sides renew rivalries at Patersons Stadium on Sunday afternoon. The Roar only scored a 2-1 win in last season’s decider courtesy of a controversial penalty to Besart Berisha in the closing stages of the match to maintain their dominance over the Western Australian based side. In 22 meetings between the clubs, Perth has only won three times, while Brisbane has won 14 times and five games have ended in a draw .

Perth have strengthened their squad with the addition of strong defender Michael Thwaite from the now defunct Gold Coast United, while they still boast one of the best strikers in the competition in Shane Smeltz. Despite losing coach Ange Postecoglu and several other players from their title winning squad from last year, Brisbane still have several of the best players in their rankings, including reigning Johnny Warren Medal winner Thomas Broich and Besart Berisha, who was the leading goalscorer in the competition last season.

Former England striker Emile Heskey makes his debut for the Newcastle Jets  in the day’s earlier game when his new club hosts Adelaide United  at Hunter Stadium. After missing the finals in the 2011/12 campaign, but sides will be looking to make a strong start to the season but Adelaide have had an exhausting schedule this week, making their task just a little bit tougher. Following Thursday morning’s Asian Champions League defeat to Bunyodkor in extra time, John Kosmina’s men have had to make the long trip back from Uzbekistan, with their preparations for this match far from ideal.
