Tourist scores $13.3 million Powerball win from trip to Wamberal

Friday 5 October 2012 - The $13,333,333.34 Powerball winning ticket sold from Wamberal Newsagency belongs to a tourist visiting the area.

NSW Lotteries officials spoke with the tourist who won a one-third share in Powerball’s $40 million jackpot draw.

The winner, clearly taken aback by his good fortune, said that he would use some of his windfall to help people in need.

“I checked my numbers on the internet this morning, I just couldn’t believe what I was seeing,” the winner in his forties said.

“I am so grateful that this has happened to me. I do a lot of charity work as I believe it is important to give back to the community, so this win will not only help me but it will be used to help a lot of people in need,” the humble winner said.

“Right now all I can think of is that I will use the money to pay off my debts, apply some to helping people in need and then I will think about my future,” he added.

Three winning tickets shared last night’s $40 million Powerball division one prize pool with each ticket scoring a $13.3 million share, along with the winning ticket sold in Wamberal, a Sydney retail worker who purchased her winning ticket in Chatswood and a 12 share NSW Lotteries central syndicate with shares sold throughout Sydney’s suburbs also won.

The winning numbers in Powerball’s $40 million jackpot draw 855 were 45, 44, 26, 41 and 20 with the Powerball number 9.

There are still lots of chances to win big over the next week with $4 million on offer in Saturday Lotto, more than $1.2 million in Lotto Strike, $1 million for up to two winners in Monday Lotto and Oz Lotto has a $20 million jackpot prize on offer this Tuesday.
