Sebastian Vettel  will be looking to make further inroads into Fernando Alonso’s lead in the 2012 Driver’s Standings in Japan on Sunday, after cutting the Ferrari driver’s lead to 29 points with his win in the Singapore Grand Prix last month. The German has a good record around the Suzuka Circuit, having won here in 2009 and 2010. Fernando Alonso  has also won in Japan twice, with his 2008 success at Fuji coming two years after winning on this track.

Prior to Vettel’s win in Singapore, McLaren had won the past three races in Italy, Belgium and Hungary and they will be bidding to get back to the top of the podium with Lewis Hamilton  and Jenson Button , who won the corresponding race twelve months ago. Although Michael Schumacher  has been plagued by a string of mechanical problems this season, he would have high hopes of a good showing in Suzuka having won at the track a record six times.
