NLCS Goes To Deciding Game

San Francisco pulled out all stops to win game six and create a 3-3 deadlock, thereby sending the National League Championship Series against St Louis in to a deciding game.

Matt Cain and Kyle Lohse find themselves squaring off, as they did in game three, which the Cardinals won 3-1 in a low-scoring contest . Cain probably pitched the better of the two in that match-up, but Matt Carpenter’s two-run homer off him meant the Cards came away with the victory. He is 8-3 in 15 home starts, though, with an ERA of just 2.03, so the Giants will feel as though they’re in relatively safe hands.

Lohse was sloppy giving up seven hits and five walks in just 5 2/3 innings of work in game three, easily his worst outing of the postseason. It was more the Cardinals infield which kept them in the game, and he’ll have to improve significantly to put a halt to the momentum San Fran has built up. This is a guy who went 16-3 during the regular season, though, and he is 3-1 at the Giants’ home ballpark, so he shouldn’t be written off.
