Star colt Pierro  will be bidding for his ninth straight win when he lines up as a short priced favourite in the Caulfield Guineas on Saturday. The Gai Waterhouse trained galloper has had two starts this preparation, scoring an easy win in the Group 3 Run To The Roses before a five length success over the mile in the Stutt Stakes at Moonee Valley two weeks ago. Following Whobegotyou’s Guineas win in 2008, the son of Lonhro will attempt to become just the third horse since 1984 to do the Stutt Stakes-Caulfield Guineas double.

Darley galloper Epaulette  got closer than any other horse has to Pierro when going down to him by a nose in the Todman Stakes earlier this year and could present the biggest danger to the unbeaten superstar again in this event. He won the Group One Golden Rose two starts back before taking the Guineas Prelude at Caulfield a fortnight ago. That contest has proved the key form race going into the Guineas in recent years, with eight of the past ten winners running in the race and three of the past six doing the double.

Group One placegetters All Too Hard  and Ashokan  get their chance to win a race at the top level, while Road Trippin , Carringbush Jack , Awesome Bro  and the lightly raced Let Go Lenni  make up the field.
