Defending World Champion Sebastian Vettel will be looking to make further inroads into Fernando Alonso’s lead in the Drivers Standings at the Korean Grand Prix this week. After winning in Japan during the last round after seeing Alonso crash out on the opening lap, Vettel moved to within four points of the Ferrari driver, who has failed to finish two of the past four races.
The Korean Grand Prix is in just its third year and both of the title protagonists have already tasted success around the 5.615km circuit. Vettel won here twelve months ago while Alonso was victorious in the inaugural running of the event. Briton Lewis Hamilton qualified on pole here last season before finishing second and will be determined to improve on that performance. Despite winning on three occasions this year, the same as Vettel and Alonso, the McLaren driver is only fourth on the overall standing having been plagued by inconsistent results. In the past six Grand Prixes, he has failed to finish three times but has also registered two wins, in Hungary and Italy.
Jenson Button will be bidding for his third win of the season in Korea while Australia’s Mark Webber is another looking for a return to form after trailing failing to finish in the top eight in any of the past three races.
