It’s crunch time for Manchester United when they take on Newcastle at Tyneside on Thursday morning (AEST). The Red Devils suffered a humiliating 3-2 defeat to second last place Blackburn in their final game of 2011 . United will need a win to join Manchester City at the top of the Premier League table who are now three points clear after registering a convincing win on Wednesday Morning.
The Red Devils have the luxury of welcoming a number of stars into their starting lineup including Wayne Rooney (disciplinary reasons), Rio Ferdinand (back) and young right back Chris Smalling (tonsillitis) who were all absent for last week’s loss.
Newcastle’s superb start to the season is somewhat of a distant memory. The Tooners will be keen to get 2012 off to the best possible start with what would be their first win over Manchester United since September 2001. The two clubs met at old Trafford in November last year with Demba Ba’s late penalty securing a 1-1 draw for the away team.
