The contrast in the standing between the teams on the competition ladder could hardly be greater, but there has been nothing between Gold Coast United and the Central Coast Mariners in their two meetings so far this season. The week two clash at Bluetongue Stadium ended in a 1-1 draw, while the New Year’s Eve meeting also ended in a stalemate .
Gold Coast United are anchored to the bottom of the table and are five points adrift of the second bottom team after failing to win in their past five matches. Their task against the ladder leaders isn’t made any easier tonight either by the fact that as many as six first team players are unavailable for this fixture. They are however, boosted by the return of Maceo Rigters from injury.
While United are struggling, the Mariners are flying high eleven points clear of second placed Brisbane Roar. They are unbeaten in fifteen games and saw off title challengers Melbourne Heart 1-0 two weeks ago before defeating Adelaide United 3-2 last Saturday.
