Cardiff will be hoping to overcome a one goal deficit from the first leg of their Carling Cup semi-final when they host Crystal Palace in the decisive fixture on Wednesday morning (AEST) after Palace took the opening game 1-0 thanks to an Anthony Gardner goal.
Cardiff warmed up for this match with a pulsating 3-2 win over Portsmouth in the Championship on the weekend, while the Eagles lost 2-1 away to Blackpool when manager Dougie Freedman rested several of his first team players with an eye on this game.
Crystal Palace’s first leg win was their fifth in six ‘Cup’ competitions against Cardiff, but they are yet to win at Cardiff City Stadium in three Championship meetings. The last clash between the teams in Wales resulted in a 2-0 league win for the hosts in November. Indeed the Bluebirds have an enviable record at home in the League Cup as well, having collected nine wins and a draw from their past ten Cup matches on home soil.
Twenty-four hours later, Liverpool host Manchester City in the second semi-final, having won the opening tie at the City of Manchester Stadium 1-0.
