Following their impressive victory at the WACA inside three days, Australia can record a series whitewash over India by winning the fourth Test starting at the Adelaide Oval on January 24. Australia built its victory by an innings and 37 runs on the back of a scintillating century by David Warner , whose efforts were backed up with the ball by his side’s four pronged pace attack.
Off spinner Nathan Lyon will return to the team for his first international match on his home ground, with either Peter Siddle or Mitchell Starc likely to make way for him. Brad Haddin could be playing for his Test career and will want to make runs, as will Ed Cowan and Shaun Marsh , who are the only players in the top six not to have made a century in the series.
Captain MS Dhoni has been banned from the match for his teams slow overrate during the Perth Test and will be replaced by Wriddhiman Saha , while Virender Sehwag will skipper the side in his absence. Ravi Ashwin will come back into the XI, probably at the expense of Vinay Kumar. For a team that has really struggled to take wickets in the last two Tests, he could be the key to India’s chances on a pitch that could favour the slow bowlers. Across Australia’s innings in Sydney and Perth, India had taken 1/836 at one stage.
Although Australia head to Adelaide on a high after their effortless wins in the first three Tests, they have recorded only one Test match win at the venue in the past four seasons. England won the second Ashes Test there by an innings and 71 runs last summer, while India managed a Draw when the teams met here four years ago.
