The Melbourne Stars and Adelaide Strikers do battle at the MCG on Thursday with the final place in the Big Bash semi-finals up for grabs. A win would be enough for the Stars to progress to the knockout stage of the competition, but the Strikers need to win by a big margin to leapfrog the Heat and Stars into fourth spot.
Melbourne has won their past two matches and much of their success can be attributed to English opener Luke Wright’s move to the top of the order. He scored 117 and combined with Rob Quiney for a record 172 run opening partnership in their last match and the Stars will be looking for more of the same here.
Adelaide is boosted by the availability of Test spinner Nathan Lyon, who will play just his second game in this season’s competition. With Keiron Pollard ruled out with injury and Johan Botha on national duty with South Africa, they need their big names to lift and Lyon’s inclusion is a big plus. Daniel Harris is yet to make a big score in the tournament and will be looking to propel his team towards a big score.
