Manchester City can regain sole possession of the top spot in the English Premier League by defeating Wigan at the DW Stadium on Monday morning (AEST). Manchester United joined City at the top of the table with their 3-0 success over Bolton on the weekend but has played a game more than their fiercest rivals. Playmaker David Silva is expected to recover from an ankle injury in time to take his place for the Citizens, although controversial striker Mario Balotelli is likely to miss out after suffering an ankle injury of his own.
Wigan will miss the services of Mohamed Diame who is away on national duty with Senegal at the African Cup of Nations.
As you would expect, City have dominated recent clashes between the sides, winning their past four matches against the Latics without conceding a goal. Having said that, Robert Mancini’s men are winless from their past four away fixtures in the league, with their last win away from the City of Manchester Stadium a 3-2 result against QPR on November 5. Wigan is winless in their past five matches.
