Despite finishing only second behind Driefontein  in the B.J McLachlan Stakes at Doomben on December 31, the Kelso Wood trained Sizzling  remains a leading contender for the Gold Coast Magic Millions 2yo Classic on January 14. Gai Waterhouse’s filly made it two wins from as many starts in the Group 3 contest, to reaffirm her credentials for the $2 million race. On the same day that those two did battle, Amorino  pressed his case with a strong win in Sydney.

In the 3yo race, Sydney galloper Safusa  shot to the top of the market with his win in a Magic Millions race at Wyong just before Christmas. Local hopes are headed by Vo Rogue Plate winner Punch On , as well as Easy Running  and Biggles .
