Big Guns on Display

Top seed Juan Martin Del Potro will begin his APIA International campaign in Sydney today when he faces world number 53 Lukasz Kubot from Poland. While Del Petro and the other four top seeded players were enjoying a first round bye, Kubot was fighting his way through to the second round with a hard fought 7-6 7-5 win against Croat Ivan Dodig.

Hard hitting American John Isner , who is the tournament’s second seed, takes on unheralded countryman Bobby Reynolds in his first match, while third seed Richard Gasquet comes up against Italian Fabio Fognini . World number nineteen Feliciano Lopez will be the final play to begin his Sydney campaign and faces a tough match against Frenchman Julien Benneteau .

Despite upsetting seventh seed Marcel Granollers in his opening match, 24 year old Australian Matt Ebden is expected to be knocked out of the tournament by world number 43 Marcos Baghdatis  this afternoon.
