Lotto luck finds Atherton retirees

Sunday 1 January, 2012 - A retired couple from Atherton have had a fantastic start to the new year, after winning a division one share of $968,750.00 in last night’s Gold Lotto $31 Million New Year’s Eve Megadraw. The couple also won $1261.80 in divisional prizes.

The couple explained that they were watching the draw on television and saw their numbers drop from the Lotto machine one by one.

“We’ve been playing the same numbers in Saturday Gold Lotto for over 15 years – they weren’t family birthdays, just random numbers that we chose and have stuck with,” the wife explained.

“So when the numbers appeared on the television screen we immediately recognised them as ours.

“It was so exciting!

“We’re still a bit shaken this morning. It will probably take some time for the reality to sink in.

“What a wonderful start to 2012!”

When asked what they planned to do with their windfall, the couple said they would invest most of the prize money, but leave enough aside to take a holiday.

“We’ve been trying to get away for a break for many months, but something always seems to come up that prevents us from leaving home.

“There won’t be any excuses now – we have something to celebrate!”

The couple purchased their winning 12 game marked entry from Phillips Newsagency in Atherton.

There were 32 division one winners nationally in last night’s Gold Lotto Megadraw.

There were eight division one winners in Queensland, ten in Western Australia, five each in New SouthWales and Victoria, three in South Australia and one in Tasmania.

The winning numbers were 7, 8, 28, 33, 38 and 41. The supplementary numbers were 4 and 37.
