Defending premiers Brisbane Roar have regained A-League favouritism from the Central Coast Mariners heading into 2012. After losing five straight to slip off the top of the table, Brisbane ended 2011 how they started it, with a commanding victory over Melbourne Victory at Suncorp Stadium. On the same day, the Mariners could manage only a 0-0 draw against bottom of the table Gold Coast United .
Halfway through the season, Central Coast sit on the top of the table ahead of surprise packets Melbourne Heart , with Brisbane Roar a further point back. After making a host of good signings during the off season, Adelaide United was expected to be premiership contenders but find themselves just a point off the bottom.
