Boom two year old Nechita faces the biggest test of her brief career when she tackles the boys for the first time in the Golden Rose at Rosehill on Saturday. After scoring an effortless 3.5 length win on debut at the start of June, the Patinack filly was put away until the end of August, when she reappeared with an easy victory against three year old fillies in the Silver Shadow Stakes. Despite facing a quantum leap in class, she has been ultra-impressive to date and looks capable of making the step up.
Kabayan , a narrow runner-up in the Group One TJ Smith during the Brisbane winter carnival, represents champion trainer Gai Waterhouse after running a big race in the McNeil Stakes at Caulfield on his reappearance and has drawn well in barrier one. Anthony Cummings has a strong hand with Your Song and Ninth Legion , while Peter Snowden saddles up Epaulette and Albrecht for Darley. Golden Slipper fourth Doubtfilly will fly the flag for Queensland, while Victoria is represented by Shamexpress , for whom connections paid a $50,000 late entry fee to get into the race.
