Following their last gasp victory over group B winners Russia two days ago, the Australian Boomers have set up a daunting quarter-final showdown with the USA’s ‘Dream Team’ in the Men’s Olympic Basketball tournament. While the Boomers recorded just their third win of the competition against Russia, the ‘Dream Team’ wasn’t really test during the preliminary round, winning their five matches by an average margin of 38 points. As a consequence, Australia is getting a big start in the handicap betting market against the gold medal favourites.
The other three quarter-final matches see ‘derby matches’, with Brazil and Argentina kicking things off with a South American showdown at the North Greenwich Arena. Russia and Lithuania meet in the second quarter-final before France and Spain go head to head.
