Friday 15 June, 2012 - A Robina family first screamed and then was in fits of laughter after discovering they’d taken out the entire division one prize pool of $3 million in last night’s Powerball draw 839.
In addition to the division one prize, the winners also won 44 times in division two, making the family’s total prize worth $3,618,745.60!
The grandfather who purchased the Powerball ticket said the prize will be appreciated by the whole family.
“I’ve played lotto with Golden Casket for around 20 years with most of my original lucky numbers,” he said.
“We’ve been struggling a bit lately so this will help our family so much.”
During the dream-come-true phone call from Golden Casket the winner had to halt the conversation because he was in disbelief and almost lost for words.
“Hang on, we’re a bit emotional right now, can you ring back in 10 minutes? We’ve just got to stop crying and laughing!”
Upon resuming the phone call, the winning man said the family doesn’t plan on splurging their newfound wealth, but will go on a holiday to celebrate.
“First of all we’ll help our kids out and settle them into homes, then pay off our mortgage and invest a lot of the money."
“But we’ve just decided we’ll celebrate with a trip to Las Vegas!” he exclaimed.
“I’m a very happily married man so my wife and I might even renew our wedding vows while we’re there.”
The winning Powerball PowerHit ticket was purchased for $35.90 from Robina Village News, Shop 16 in Robina Village Plaza.
The winning numbers in Powerball draw 839 on Thursday, 14 June were 27, 12, 23, 15 and 29. The Powerball was 1.
