Three time winner Tiger Woods will be out to win his first major since 2008 when he tees off at the US Open this week. After being short of his best in the past couple of years the fourteen time major winner has won twice on the PGA Tour this year, capturing the Arnold Palmer Invitational in March before winning the Memorial tournament a fortnight ago.
There will be a strong contingent of European players lining up at the event, headlined by the world’s top three ranked players – Luke Donald , defending champion Rory McIlroy and Lee Westwood - who go around in the same group on the opening day. Graeme McDowell , Retief Goosen and Angel Cabrera are amongst the other former winners set to lie up.
Australia’s nine strong contingent will be headed by 2006 winner Geoff Ogilvy , while Adam Scott and Jason Day will be confident of performing well after strong showings in recent majors.
