Christchurch couple to rebuild lives with
$1 million Gold Lotto win
A Christchurch couple visiting family in Brisbane, broke down in tears this morning, when Golden Casket
confirmed that they had won one million dollars in Wednesday Gold Lotto.
The couple said that they couldn't believe they would be ending what has been a very difficult year, on
such a high note.
"This year has been an extremely tough one for us," the couple explained.
"We started the year with the tragic Christchurch earthquake in February. Then later in the year we both
lost our jobs and suffered a family member's unexpected death.
"Following our job losses, we decided that we would leave Christchurch and move to Queensland.
"We were in Brisbane this week doing some research and while we were out and about, picked up a
Wednesday Gold Lotto entry.
"We were shopping at Indooroopilly last night and popped into a newsagency to have our ticket checked.
"When the staff member put our ticket through the terminal and told us it looked like we had a high win, but
would need to contact Golden Casket's head office to find out how much, we figured we must have won a
few thousand dollars.
"We were due to fly back to Christchurch this morning but rescheduled our flight to tomorrow so we could
visit Golden Casket and find out how much we had won. We used the last $1000 in our bank account to
reschedule our flights.
"When Golden Casket told us we had won one million dollars we burst into tears.
"This money will be an absolute life line for us. We'll be able to buy a house and set up a new life in
Queensland."
The couple purchased their winning Jumbo QuickPick entry from Supanews Xpress in the Myer Centre. The winning numbers in Wednesday Gold Lotto draw 3164 were 38, 17, 10, 41, 15 and 14 with the
supplementary numbers 6 and 29.
